ALABAMA HOSPICE SERVICES Patient Care Attendants for 6 months with 3 months hospital attachment to be equipped in Basic Care,First Aid, Basic Life Support, Communication and Counselling, Infection Prevention and Mental Health Awareness skills just among other core units.

ALABAMA HOSPICE Patient Care attendants are trained caregivers and are also certified and undergo on job training to boost their skills and knowledge of the job to work locally and internationally. At ALABAMA HOSPICE a   trained and qualified patient attendant  shall demonstrate the following skills upon completion of course;

    • Thorough understanding of medical terminology, diseases, and procedures
    • Demonstrate competency basic care procedures for hospital and homecare
    • Demonstrate competency in Basic First aid and CPR and Basic Life Support procedures
    • Have an empathetic approach should have a personal interest in the health and well-being of their patient
    • Taking vital signs and maintaining its records in the medical chart
    • Assist in the transportation of the patient.
    • Provide support to patients who need assistance for walking or standing
    • Communicating the patient’s needs to effective channels
    • Feeding the patient and ensuring that their dietary needs are met
    • Train and assist patients to use medical devices and equipment as required
    • Changing the position of the patient to prevent bedsores
    • Updating medical staff workers on any unusual condition of the patient that needs to be addressed.
    • Provide support to ambulance teams in any emergency situation
